Purchasing in the Global Marketplace - IIEI-376

Course Description: This six-week course examines the organizational purchasing function within the global marketplace. Upon completion, students will have demonstrated in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of the role, duties and functions of a purchasing professional. Case studies are used by students to apply their understanding of course concepts to real-life situations.

  • To identify the factors involved in the selection of a supplier.

  • To be able to identify the possible impact of e-commerce on purchasing.  

Outsourcing and Supply Management in the Global Marketplace

  • To demonstrate knowledge and appreciation for the challenges of outsourcing.  

Logistics Issues

  • To be able to analyze the value of third-party logistics providers.
  • To know the various logistical modes available. 

Global Supply Strategies

  • To understand the importance of global purchasing
  • To be able to identify and evaluate the potential problem areas of global sourcing.
  • To know the channel elements that impact global purchasing.  

Legal Aspects of Purchasing

  • To be able to identify the legal issues related to the purchasing function.
  • To know the legal liabilities and the authority of the purchasing officer.
