International Trade Compliance Manager

The Opportunity:

A newly created opportunity exists for an experienced compliance professional to manage trade compliance activities for H.C. Starck Inc.; the company's US entity.  This role will require both strategic and tactical leadership as well as consultation to personnel both in the US and Europe.  

Reporting to the company's General Counsel, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of a corporate trade compliance program. This will necessitate the design of and enhancement to, a range of import and export policies, procedures and control systems that apply to 3  manufacturing sites.  You should be prepared to travel up to 25%. This will be mostly domestic travel with occasional trips to Europe.  Customs compliance programs will include issues related to classification and valuation, duty drawback procedures and requests, and eligibility for special treatment under trade preference programs. Export compliance programs will include jurisdiction, classification and licensing determinations with respect to exports and transfers of the company's products and technology, screening for denied parties and deemed export issues. 

This is a highly visible role both internally and externally and critical to managing the expeditious flow of international trade. You will act as the primary interface with relevant agencies (commerce, state and customs) for all trade compliance activities.   You will initiate periodic audits of compliance systems and develop and maintain a trade compliance scorecard against clearly defined KPI's.  You will also provide essential training to ensure impacted employees understand and follow specific legal principles involving laws and regulations regarding the importation and exportation of goods.
