International Trade Compliance Leader Import
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Provide project leadership in the development & implementation of policies & procedures related to international trade agreements, trade
legislation, US & foreign Customs regulations, & other government agency
requirements affecting imports, for purposes of assuring lawful &
cost-effective import operations.
- Counsel & advise GE business and affiliated companies, component
management in import regulatory matters.
- Interface with global suppliers & customers to communicate customs
requirements.
- Respond to & represent business International Trade Compliance (ITC)
in import control related matters.
- Determine strategy for compliance with customs regulations & develop
procedures for implementation to assure compliance to US & foreign
Customs requirements.
- Interview & select national Customhouse brokers; manage & audit
brokers to facilitate compliant customs entry declarations on behalf of
business.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting customs & import requirements.
- Establish proper tariff classification & valuation methodologies in
accordance with customs Regulations (19CFR) for all GE business &
affiliated company imports & incorporate in affected business systems
for flow-down to suppliers, customers & joint venture/revenue sharing
participants.
- Develop training materials & conduct training as required for company
employees.
- Formulate & submit official responses to customs officials on matters
dealing with company imports.
- Develop strategy & formulate written petitions to customs officials to
obtain rulings & clarifications on applicability of regulations.
- Resolve GE business customs issues through Customs Headquarters level & assist customs personnel when conducting official audits.
- Identify opportunities for customs duty/tax reduction & lead duty
drawback &/or reduced duty filings on behalf of business; audit related
business processes to assure compliance with conditions.
Required Experience:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
- At least 5 additional years of experience with major importer, Customs
agency, or brokerage firm.
- U.S. Customs Licensed broker.
